What are the tell-tale signs of depression?

Feeling down occasionally is normal, but when these feelings last for longer than a couple of weeks or are beginning to have a serious impact on daily life, this can be an indicator of depression.1

What are some of the key watch-outs?

When it comes to other tell-tale signs of depression, some of the key ones include a lost interest in activities that someone normally enjoys or appearing to feel down or hopeless. Their speech or movement may be slower, they may fidget or appear restless. A lack of energy, overeating or loss of appetite are further depression signs, as are sleep issues or trouble concentrating.1

In older people, some of the key depression signs include empty fridges and cupboards, poor hygiene, neglecting their appearance and little joy when visited by friends or family.1
